Alec Hoyland is a machine learning scientist and software engineer with deep experience building and deploying advanced AI systems across industry and the public sector.
Before joining Jaxon, Alec served in applied research roles at defense contractors where he developed large-scale LLM applications, led R&D for defense and intelligence customers, and created state-of-the-art models for object detection, radar denoising, multimodal retrieval, and language learning. His work spans the full ML lifecycle, from numerical modeling and algorithm design to Kubernetes-based deployment in classified and unclassified environments. In addition, his background includes novel contributions to LLM evaluation, gradient-based alignment techniques, and compressed-sensing methods for human-subject neuroengineering experiments.
He holds a Master’s of Science in Neuroscience and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Neuroscience and Biological Physics from Brandeis University. Outside of work, Alec enjoys board games and hiking with his three dogs.
